In the heart of the human psyche lies a deeply ingrained fear of the unknown. It’s as if our soul craves structure, order, and the comfort of the predictable. But what if that world of predictability disintegrates? As the age-old saying goes, there’s order in chaos. And recently, I’ve been mulling this over as I watch the rehearsals for Bishop Kelly’s latest theatrical venture.
Bishop Kelly’s fall play is more than just a performance—it’s a philosophical inquiry brought to life on stage. It explores the juxtaposition of order and chaos in the vivid narrative of “Alice, or the Scottish Gravediggers.” For those wondering about the plot and characters, let’s just say you’re in for a treat. In their unique roles, the actors tread a thin line, presenting characters that are both larger-than-life and profoundly relatable.
Having been immersed in the theater arts for as long as I can remember, the rehearsals for this play have struck a chord. Amid the seemingly chaotic nature of script changes and rescheduling, there’s an uncanny precision and passion. It’s as if amidst the swirling storm of unpredictability, there lies a calm, determined center.
Isabella Sanchez, a dedicated cast member, beautifully encapsulates this spirit, ”Our biggest source of motivation is putting on a show that will make [the audience] feel like they’re there with us. We love telling a story, but more than that we love being alive. Being involved in the play [tells] the story of a life, bringing our audience an hour of respite, and living and breathing as someone else.”
Beyond its thematic depth, the very soul of this play lies in its people. While it may seem we’re grappling with hurdles of preparation and time, what truly stands out is our collective drive to succeed. Bishop Kelly’s upcoming play might have moments of feeling rushed or chaotic, but there’s an undying resolve, a spirit, that permeates every rehearsal. Talent, indeed, is vital. Experience is undoubtedly valuable. But above all, our collective will and passion promise to make this play a triumph.
Bishop Kelly’s play will be showcased from October 26th to October 29th for those intrigued and looking to be part of this theatrical journey.
Ultimately, this isn’t just about a play—it’s about the magic that unfolds when chaos and order dance together on stage, brought to life by a team I’m immeasurably proud to be part of.
