This Year’s Homecoming Dress Up Themes… Revealed

As homecoming approaches, the Pep Club has chosen some simple but time honored dress up themes. On Monday, we have the Knightly Knights Pajama Day, the same as the theme for the football game the past Friday. On Tuesday, we have Superhero Day, where students are allowed to dress as their favorite Marvel, DC, or any other superhero. As for Wednesday, sophomore and juniors have PSATs while seniors have College Blitz and tux and drape photos. Freshmen have the day off, but everyone has to be back to school on Thursday for Jersey Day, so bring your favorite team’s Jersey! Finally, on Friday we have the same theme as that day’s football theme, Spirit Day! Freshmen wear gold, sophomores come in white, juniors have black and seniors are free to come in all spirit colors.

Many seniors at BK this year were curious as to how our Pep Club agrees and comes up with these themes. In an interview with Lucy Glynn, our Student Council President, she revealed that coming up with these themes is not as easy as it seems. First of all, after a brainstorming session of ideas for the upcoming homecoming week, they submit a list of carefully picked ideas to submit to the school administration. Our administration looks over them, carefully selecting the ones that they deem most fun and appropriate in terms of our school dress code, and that optimize student participation through simplicity. Then, Pep Club votes on the approved themes. This year, they chose the themes that had something in common with other school events taking place on the same day. For example, Jersey Day is on the same day as our homecoming parade, giving the teams in the parade the opportunity to wear their jerseys the whole day without having to change for the parade. Spirit Day is on the same day of the week that the Spirit Store opens, and again, as the home Varsity football game against Columbia. Overall, any students who would like to participate in the selection process for next year’s homecoming dress up themes are advised to join Pep Club. As a club dedicated to promoting school spirit and cheer, it can never have enough members that are also dedicated to seeing BK succeed. Have a great homecoming week and don’t forget: The Homecoming Dance is on Saturday from 8-11 pm in the Reg!
