What to Know About the Hoco Dance

Written By Elizabeth Druist and Rhinarrah Narruhn

There are two weeks until Homecoming! That leaves you 17 days to get ready for one of the best days of your high school life.

Have you bought your homecoming dress yet? 43% of surveyed students have already bought a dress, suit, or homecoming outfit. Girls say popular places to shop are the mall (stores there include JCPenney, Macy’s, and Dillards). Windsor and Hello Molly are other popular spots, as well as various online stores.

But how many students are even going to homecoming? Almost all the students polled are in on this event, with a small number saying they are not going or haven’t decided yet.

A good amount of students (43%) are going out in groups, while the non-singles are going with their dates. A slight percentage say they are going alone, not with a date or a group.

Here’s some inside information: the theme of homecoming is “A Diamond Knight”, in celebration of Bishop Kelly’s 60th year. There will be disco and vintage decorations in honor of this. The dance will be held in the Reg on Saturday, October 14th from 8-11 pm. Sophomore representative Abigail Wallace reports that the representatives are looking into a photo booth and disco ball, along with other decor. At any rate, whether you’ve bought a dress or not, it’s still good to know what colors suit the theme. Since the theme is “A Diamond Knight” it would be fitting to buy a dress that represents diamonds, but the Reg will be a disco and vintage decor. Colors that would work best with this decor would be: lavender, ice blue, or pink. Ice blue would be very fitted to the theme. Or if you’re not into that, you can go with much bolder shades like red, purple, green, or orange. If you really want to shine, having a dress with glitter, sequins, and metallics would make you stand out. White is also a good color, but make sure not to spill any food on it.

As for food, there were reportedly some snacks at last year’s homecoming dance, but since most people had already eaten at a restaurant, providing refreshments was somewhat pointless. This year, the snacks will be cut down to just cupcakes. A popular spot to eat out before the dance is Olive Garden, though some students reportedly prefer another restaurant due to its crowdedness. Since it’s right near BK, it can get mobbed.

The homecoming football game is on Friday, October 13th, the day before the dance.  Powderpuff practices have begun, and the girls are already becoming highly competitive, with practices every week or more often.

Whether you are going out to eat beforehand or looking forward to a party afterward, going with a date or not, this year’s homecoming will be a big event, and hopefully you have a fantastic time! Be good, and do good.
