Service: The Glue to Our Community

Service Learning Day is a time for Bishop Kelly students to help out in our community and get to know one another. Today is a very special day as BK has not hosted Service Learning Day for the past four years due to Covid-19.

Every class has a peculiar mission, but they are all working toward the same objective of serving various people in our community. BK students and staff have the opportunity to be involved in a special BK experience today, if they approach it with a positive mindset.

Mrs. Dalrymple’s class went to the Monastery of Our Lady of Ephesus. Mrs. Dalrymple has been going to the Monastery of Our Lady of Ephesus for Service Learning Day since she began teaching at BK. She has been able to watch the place grow from a retreat center to a fully functioning monastery.

Service Learning Day is the highlight of her year. She enjoys bringing her students to the monastery to rake, pull weeds, and clean the grounds. Additionally, she gets them engaged with silly math jokes. This year she teased, “Force times distance equals work! So apply force and move your rake. We are here to work!” Every year Mrs. Dalrymple finds new things about Service Learning Day to be excited about. She hopes her students experience the same excitement she has every year.

No matter what happens, may all of BK remember this day with a sense of happiness. BK students have a finite amount of days of school left, and Service Learning Day is one of many to cherish and offers a time for everyone to make new memories and continue to make the most of everyday!

Below is a collage of photos so that Bishop Kelly students and staff can always remember the memories made on this day!
