On November 4th and 5th, the Bishop Kelly Swim Team faced off in a tough competition against the newly 4A team, Skyview High School. After having a season of win after win, we knew that this competition would be the toughest of the year.
Going into the tournament, we were excited and thrilled to have the opportunity to compete. A week prior on October 25th, we won our two district titles: Guys and Girls District Championships. As a senior, it was a satisfying feeling knowing my team and I went four years of District Champions. Despite this, we knew that half of the team at Districts actually qualified for state. With the slim numbers we were given, we knew that our victory against Skyview at Districts would be a difficult one to uphold.
When the day finally arrived, we were anticipating the strong races everyone would give, and man did our team crush it. Within the two day competition, we came away with various state records and the girls 200 Medley Relay came away with the new Bishop Kelly High School record at a time of 1:54.16. On top of this, every single person that competed dropped time within the two days, giving each swimmer a personal best. In the past four years, I have to say this state tournament was one of the most exhilarating and closest races I have ever been a part of.
Both the guys and girls team ended up winning second place overall. The girls were second by just one point, barely getting the second place title to Skyview High School, the newly moved down team. The guys got second place to Skyline High School, yet put up an incredible fight especially after having lost so many seniors this past year. This year I have to say has been one of the best and most competitive years I have swam.
All in all, the swim team this year put up a fierce competition and I know that next year they will continue to do so. I am so fortunate to have been a part of this team for so long, and I can’t wait to see the success of the team within the years to come.
