It is safe to say that homecoming week is always quite an eventful time of year. Students can look forward to various things like exciting new dress-up themes, the annual homecoming football game, dancing in the Lachiondo Plaza, and of course homecoming royalty nominations.
Each year, students eagerly anticipate who will be elected to the homecoming court. Juniors and Seniors are left on the edge of their seats, waiting to hear their names called. It is something that many students would be honored to be awarded with. It shows a commitment to in school and extracurricular activities along with signs of respect and encouragement within the student body.
Lucy Glynn and Nick Seatz made their grand entrances riding in on golf carts as students in the stands couldn’t help but make their guesses about who they think will be crowned as homecoming royalty. Some nominees included Katie Yowell, Bella Boudreau, Drew Martin, and Jackson Slaven. After a suspenseful, and dramatic, build up filled with drum rolls and whispers among students, Noah Larson and Madison Hutchinson were lucky enough to have heard their names announced as this year’s homecoming king and queen.
In addition to this, Jeffrey Dahlstrom and Jane Teuber were awarded Mr. and Mrs. Pep. Jane explains that she has been a member of pep club since she was a freshman and thinks that pep club is a great place for all students. She says that it allows students to “share their ideas to help make BK a place where everyone feels like they are supported” in sports, as well as academically.
The Bishop Kelly Dance Team also had a chance to showcase what they are all about. They only recently became a team this year and have already had some impressive performances. Catherine McGonegle, a junior at BK, says that “the halftime show was the artistic vision of our two captains, Ava Burnett and Bella Boudreau.” The team rehearsed their performance over a span of several weeks, “practicing at 6:15 a.m.” in order to perfect every last bit of the dance. When the time came, the team felt no pressure because they are “studio dancers who are used to performing in front of an audience.”
Homecoming had lots to offer this year: homecoming royalty nominations, exciting new dress up themes, and half time performances are all things that BK students get to look forward to. Let’s hope Hoco ‘23 brings just as many memories.
