A “Raft” Full of Tradition

As a new school year begins it came time for one of BK’s most famous traditions to end the summer with a splash! It was time for the Senior Float! Prior to the event, seniors Max Ciovacco, Meianna Neumeyer, and Maggie Avey shared their perspectives on tradition at BK and their hopes for senior year.

For those of you who don’t know, the Senior Float is an annual river ride that takes place on the Boise River at the end of each summer. It’s a time for the incoming senior class to celebrate their new status as head of the school, which is done in style as most choose to dress up in costume.

Maggie Avey’s raft had been going back and forth on the perfect group costume. They “talked about princesses, fairies, fruits…vegetables!” She stated that her vote was for fruits. Specifically, Maggie wanted “to be a pineapple. I thought I would be an orange, but I thought it would look too much like a carrot. And I don’t want to be a carrot,” she concluded.

But more importantly than fruits versus vegetables, Maggie believes that tradition for the class of 2023 is especially significant since Covid prevented them from having a normal early high school experience.

Max Ciovacco would agree that keeping tradition is important “to everyone who’s gone through BK.” He thinks that it’s “awesome” for “the Alumni to see that people are” participating in the same customs they did in high school. When asked about a tradition that he’s most looking forward to, Max says that “it would definitely have to be powderpuff.” Max is “super psyched” to be coaching a team again this year along with friends Patrick Monahan and Hadley Smith.

While being head honchos of the school comes with some of perks *cough cough off campus lunch *cough cough All of these upperclassmen are prepared to be role models at BK.

Meianna Neumeyer is looking forward to “being the bigger person on campus and being able to help other people.” Particularly the freshmen as Meianna believes that “even if you’re an upperclassman,” you should “never stop looking for” people to make friends with. This year Meianna is most looking forward to school dances however, she also enjoyed the annual swim team retreat. Meianna believes that traditions like these are “a very good way to bring people together”.

All in all these seniors are looking forward to a year full of old and new traditions and hope to set an example for their underclassmen “to have a good school” as the class of 2023 floats on to graduation.

Welcome back BK!
